Importance of Morning Rituals

Waking up is a moment we should all be grateful for every morning. With whatever you felt the night before, waking up the next morning is a fresh start and should be handled with self care and love. If you wake up with a positive mindset, your day will automatically seem better no matter what hardships you may be dealing with or are nervous about. Waking up and instantly thinking “Oh God, here we go again.” is never the right way to start any morning off, no matter the circumstances. To have your ideal morning to start the day off optimistic, a daily morning ritual is one of the healthiest options. With having a solid routine you feel comfortable enough with to hold on out almost every day, you will find yourself increasing productivity, having a better mindset, decreasing your amount of stress, and ultimately having much more confidence in yourself.

With morning rituals, it is common to find yourself performing more tasks and achieving deadlines early on. Filling your morning with productivity will leave you stress free for the rest of the day not having to worry about all the chores and work you need to complete. With boosting your productivity and reducing stress you will have more time to focus on yourself. Working on confidence and your mental well being should always be a priority, however others may find themselves not focusing on it as much due to all their other tasks. Knocking everything out early on will allow you time to relax and focus on what is really important, yourself.

Everyone's routine will obviously be different, so going to YouTube and searching up morning routines from your favorite creators, may not be the right fit for you. It takes time to develop your own personalized schedule while finding what works for you and what may not. In your routine, it is important to be not only consistent but also flexible. With being flexible you are allowing yourself to adapt to new things and rid of any expectations. Having an ideal morning routine is not for trying to meet a certain expectation or wanting to reach “perfection,” it is for your own mind and wellness, not anyone else's.

Having a rough night may affect the way you wake up the next morning, it’s inevitable. But instead of fighting it or even worse feeding into it, relaxation and accepting that a new day will serve you better is key. Obviously we will have those days where the idea of getting out of bed and going on a schedule is not right, and that’s totally normal. Having our own personal rest days are just as important as having a ritual, there’s no shame in being a little lazy some days. Whatever your morning rituals may consist of, it is what makes you happy and comfortable, so do you! However, if you need a little push to get you going, here are just a few of the habits I have adapted to get me through my mornings.

Do not check your phone ASAP

Getting on your phone as soon as you wake up will just instantly start your morning off the wrong way, that is all a fact we need to come to terms with. Instead, allow yourself time to breathe and open the blinds to get in some natural lighting for a moment. Instagram and Snapchat can wait, you do not need to know what happened in the eight-plus hours you were offline.

Meditate

I’m sure you hear this everywhere but meditation is the cure for almost everything, trust me, I'm not exaggerating. Just 15 minutes of this will allow you to put yourself in this incredibly zen atmosphere free of everything. It’s just you and your breath. I started meditating due to anxiety and lots of stress, and I cannot believe the effects this has had on my everyday life. It puts you in the right headspace to start your day off and it is an absolute must for your mind, body, and soul. It will take a few tries to get used to it and really get into a place of relaxation, but do not give up when you try this. This takes a lot of patience but it is completely worth it.

Reading

Getting into a good novel is so amazing with broadening your mind and creativity. Certain books allow your mind to travel and be open to new places. It not only gets your brain working first thing in the morning, but will also relax you. All you have to focus on in that moment is you and your book, nothing else will matter in your world.

Physical Activity

With just 15-20 minutes of exercise, your motivation will rise and allow you to do something positive for yourself. Some great ways to get in a morning workout is going out for a walk, jog, or bike ride while breathing in some fresh air, a relaxing yoga session, or the simple workout you can easily find on YouTube. Starting off the morning with a good sweat sesh will set the tone for the day and boost your serotonin levels.

Listen to vinyl

Music without a doubt is a main necessity in everyday life. It keeps us sane and acts as a form of therapy. Listening to your favorite tracks on a record player will for sure boost your morning and set the tone for the day. Record players give off a specific sound that you can’t find on your phone, and its soft cracking tone it gives the music will instantly wind your morning down and give you this calm mood to relax in.

With some of these examples, take the overall idea of this routine and build a ritual that is perfect for you and your everyday schedule. Doing something great for your own well being is always amazing. Trust us, you will not regret this!
