Releasing Your Emotions With One Playlist
Oftentimes, we find ourselves holding in certain emotions and bottling up feelings that we’d prefer others not to see. It happens to all of us, some more than others, it’s inevitable. Whether it was a stressful day at work or a bad day at home, emotions build up over time and leave you feeling trapped in your own feelings. Obviously talking to people whether it be a loved one, close friend, or even your therapist, is a normal solution to getting out all of that aggression inside of you, however some may find it harder than others to speak up. Music is an incredible option in this scenario. Music has multiple effects over people and can allow the body and mind to release any toxic spirits trapped inside. With this release playlist, your mindset goes through multiple feelings that will allow you to literally release yourself from any harsh emotions going through your body. Unlike other playlists, this set-list has more mellow songs than upbeat. Whenever your mind completely drifts away and goes elsewhere and your body is left just still and quiet, this playlist just does just that. With some playlists you can click shuffle and you’d be ready to go, but this is a different story. You absolutely MUST listen to this in order and listen all the way through from start to finish in one sitting. If you feel like you don’t have time, remember that you always have time for yourself and that you can make time when you know you need it. So before you hit play on this 50 minute playlist and release all your inner emotions, here are some honorable mentions i feel like are the most important throughout this set.
Hide and Seek - Imogen Heap (Track 1):
I chose this as the first song to start off this meditation-like moment for you simply because the sound is extremely powerful and will completely overtake you. It’s a completely computer-assisted voice-only piece of art that will allow you to release anything you're trying to force inside and let you get a good cry sesh out. It was my intention to get a good tear out in the first 4 minutes just to release any toxins that may have been building up in your body, giving you a fresh start and a feeling of calmness and relaxation. And let me tell you, this song does just that.
Lions - Skillet (Track 3):
Skillet is a powerful band with such powerful lyrics and this song is no different. It’s very empowering with the lyrics “We walk as lions”, “Today we know that we are strong when we are weak”, and “We fear no evil.” It will truly uplift you and really help you gain back the power and confidence you feel like you may have lost.
Let It Be - The Beatles (Track 4):
This song is a classic and through all of its time being played over the years, it never loses its touch. The lyrics written by Lennon and McCartney are very clear and you instantly feel like Paul McCartney is speaking directly to you with some of the greatest advice you will ever hear. The most powerful piece of advice you could ever think of is literally in the title, let it be. You have to let go of things you may not have control of or are too wrapped up in, because just as the lyrics go “there will be an answer, let it be.” Mother Mary really whispered words of wisdom here, and it is powerful not only for your mind, but your heart in letting go of any dark moments.
Almost Everything - Wakey!Wakey! (Track 6):
This song has been one of my favorites to listen to when I need it simply because it reminds you how this rough patch and whatever you feel like you need to hide inside will eventually disappear and to have an overall positive outlook on life. With lyrics like “It feels bad now but it’s gonna get better” this will really help you escape what you're going through for the moment.
Fine Line - Harry Styles (Track 14):
Lyric wise, this has to be one of my favorites. I found this song while I was painting, listening to recommendations and the lyrics are just so incredibly powerful, it took me aback to be honest. Starting out the artist speaks out in this very vulnerable state he’s in and is extremely raw with his emotions, but as the song progresses the melody lifts up and the lyrics, as well as the outlook, become more positive. It really does take you through such a journey in just 6 minutes and reminds you that everything truly will be alright in the end. I love the message (that I took out) behind this song being that there will always be ups and downs in life and you have to make amends with that fact if you ever want to be truly happy in life, there will be a line between them that you have to accept. And saving this piece for last to end your experience with this release playlist is extremely important and gives you a reason to stay till the end to really work on yourself and reflect. Not to mention the trumpets on the last half of the song is one of the prettiest sounds you’ll hear.
I have used this playlist multiple times for myself to release any dark feelings in my head knowing that I am still working on being able to open up to certain people and music ultimately just works better for me. Music has served as a form of therapy for me for years and I promise you, using this playlist will help and get rid of all your distress as it does mine. So open up your mind, relax, and release for just 50 minutes. Listen to the playlist right here on Spotify and let us know what you think!
