It’s no secret that staying in and cozying up to a movie night never fails, especially during Halloween. The go to regular Halloween dress up parties are always great don’t get me wrong, but a movie night with your closest friends or family is absolutely unmatched. But theres always one way for this kind of night to go south, the wrong movie. So lets make sure that that doesn’t happen on your spooky night. Whether it’s a fall rom-com or a terrifying thriller, setting the tone for Halloween night with the right movies is an absolute must and cannot go unnoticed. Here’s whats in our top 10!

10: Sleepy Hollow

This classic is an absolute must for your Halloween night. It keeps you on the edge of your seat, leaves a fun conversation going with your friends, and has Johnny Depp, that last reason should tie you in automatically. It’s the perfect mix for everyone with some horror for the thrill seekers, fantasy for the younger ones (not too young to be scared), and romance for the hopeless romantics. You can’t go wrong

9: A Quiet Place

Don’t expect any side commentary from your friends in this film, any time you make a peep you’ll be looking around scared for your life. A Quiet Place is one of the more fun horror films to watch as it’s so unique with barely any lines in the whole movie but still gives you the adrenaline rush from a regular horror film. The overall ambiance of the whole movie sets the spooky vibe just right.

8: Clue

Not only is the board game fun enough, but the movie, literal perfection. It’s the best mystery rolled in with comedy there is. It keeps you thinking and just when you think you’ve solved it all, they throw in something bigger giving you a run for your money.

7: The Rocky Horror Picture Show

This cult favorite is all around just a fun movie. It’s one of those films where you don’t take it too seriously, having fun with your friends while watching, singing and dancing along, and just appreciating Tim Curry as a whole. Rocky Horror will leave you in the best mood as you may want to take a break with any horror films as this will instantly put you in a good mood.

6: Edward Scissorhands

Once again, does this film really need any reason to watch it other than Johnny Depp? This one may not be the most mood boosting movie, but it is just great in every other way. You get attached to each character straight off the bat and is the perfect mix between romance and fantasy.

5: The Addams Family

Does this one even need an explanation as to how good it is? I’m sure we have all seen this classic film plenty of times, but of course watching it again on Halloween night is a must. This entire family is full of dark mysterious values and will leave you wanting to redecorate your entire living space in a ghostly fashion. Not to mention Morticia Addams is the complete blueprint.

4: When Harry Met Sally

Take a break from your spooky Halloween movies and release your inner romantic with one of the best romantic comedies to this day. Although this film is not necessarily set during Halloween, the year round settings include the best autumn atmosphere from New York City. Not only will the story leave you wanting to meet a man like Harry Burns, but it will make you want to run through orange leaves in the park and have a classic fall day.

3: Hocus Pocus

Bette Midler. That’s it. Most of us grew up on this movie and almost 30 years later, it has never gotten old. It’s perfect to watch with family or even friends when you want to have more of a nostalgic homage to your childhood. And now that you’re older, you don’t have to worry about the Sanderson sisters sucking the life out of you.

2: Nightmare Before Christmas

If it’s Halloween you have to watch Nightmare Before Christmas, sorry I don’t make the rules. Obviously any Tim Burton movie is a Halloween necessity, but as everyone knows, this one stands out. With lovable characters in a spooky town, this film will hold a special place in your heart. Not to mention it knocks out two birds with one stone being not only a Halloween movie, but also a Christmas one as well.

1: Practical Magic

Now finally, the number one pick obviously has to go to Practical Magic. A film with witchcraft, romance, and an outstanding soundtrack all rolled into one, whats not to love? Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman portray Alice Hoffman’s fictional Owens sisters wonderfully based off her novel and will make you wish you were born into a magical family. Also, with featured music from legends Stevie Nicks, Joni Mitchell, and more, you are guaranteed to get not only a fantastic Halloween watch, but also a snippet from rock legends you’re guaranteed to love.

So order in a pizza, get in your pajamas, and have a cozy Halloween night in the best way. Let us know what your favorite fall films are on Instagram and Happy Halloween from Section 9!
